We are delighted to announce that the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has given Mayflower Care Home an ‘Outstanding’ rating in the well-led category following an unannounced inspection in September. The inspectors looked at two areas – safe and well-led – with the home being assessed as ‘Good’ in the safe category and ‘Good’ overall.

As part of its recent inspection, the CQC spoke with staff, relatives and professional contacts, and many remarked on the high level of care and commitment we give to our residents, as well as our ‘positive’ and ‘open’ culture. Staff were complimented on how well they managed residents with ‘challenging behaviour’ and the home was praised for the ‘strict’ measures put in place to protect residents, staff and families during the Covid-19 pandemic. One professional also told the inspectors: “This home deserves more than outstanding it deserves an award”, which is a truly heartening and heart-warming comment!

The inspection team singled out Mayflower’s skills as a specialist dementia care provider, saying: “The service was a role model for providing care for people living with dementia and complex behaviours. They had received visits from social and health care professionals, who had come to learn about the service’s well-being and dementia programme.”

Memorably, the inspectors also described our service leadership as both ‘exceptional and distinctive’. They said that “Everyone told us the service was exceptionally led by the management team. Leaders and the service culture they created drove and improved high-quality, person-centred care”.

We feel that this very positive report is a testament to everyone’s hard work and commitment during what has been an incredibly challenging and stressful time for all of us. However, we are determined to build on our achievements and will strive continuously to attain an outstanding rating in all five areas!

Commenting on the report, home manager Nicola Bundock (pictured) says: “This is a real tribute to my management team and our staff who have worked so hard to support residents and keep them safe during the pandemic. We would like to thank them all for their fantastic dedication and excellent teamwork.”

“We are determined to build on our achievements and are still aiming to attain an outstanding rating in all five categories!”
