A Magnificent Visit From Some Very Special Owls

Residents at Mayflower Care Home enjoyed a fascinating wildlife experience when a selection of beautiful owls came to visit the home.
There was plenty of excitement as residents had the opportunity to meet the owls up close and learn more about these fascinating birds. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to see the birds' unique features and personalities while hearing interesting facts about the different species and their natural behaviours.
One of the highlights was the chance for residents to wear a special protective glove and have an owl fly across the room before landing gently on their hand. For many residents, this was a memorable experience and something a little different from the usual activities at the home.

The visit also provided plenty of opportunities for conversation. Residents chatted about the owls they had seen before, shared memories of wildlife and asked questions about the birds. Experiences like this can encourage curiosity and engagement while providing residents with something new and exciting to enjoy together.
Wildlife visits are a great addition to the varied programme of activities at Mayflower, offering residents opportunities to experience nature and learn something new without having to travel far from home. The combination of education, sensory experiences and social interaction made the owl visit an afternoon to remember.
At Mayflower, we aim to provide activities that reflect the varied interests of our residents, from creative sessions and entertainment to outings and special animal visits. Creating opportunities to try something new and enjoy shared experiences is an important part of everyday life at the home.
