We’re delighted to announce that Claudia Ramsamy has become manager here at Mayflower Care Home, while former manager Nicola Bundock has moved over to manage one of our sister homes, Maples Care Home in Bexleyheath.

Claudia is a very experienced manager, having spent nearly four years looking after another Canford Healthcare home, Willows Care Home in Romford. Claudia worked her way up in the industry, beginning as a care assistant almost nine years ago and progressing through various other roles before becoming manager.

Claudia has an excellent track record, in terms of both the quality of care and the standard of cleanliness and tidiness achieved at Willows. The home team regularly impressed inspectors during local authority infection control audits, and recently received a Chief Nursing Silver Award for its outstanding contribution to Health and Social Care. In 2020 Claudia pipped dozens of other contenders to win the East of England Great British Care Awards’ Social Care Covid Hero Award for her courageous leadership during the pandemic.

She has been delighted by the warm welcome she has received from residents, families and staff here at Mayflower. Her immediate priority is to focus on maximising the quality of care – especially dementia care – to ensure that this is outstanding, while also empowering the team to create an environment that is both dementia friendly and the best it possibly can be for all our residents. Another key focus is around staff training and wellbeing.

“I’m passionate about helping residents with dementia to achieve their best quality of life. Part of this is around ensuring that staff are sufficiently well trained in dementia care,” she says. “I’m also determined to ensure that the home is a cheerful place where the staff know each other and work well together. That is so important, as good teamwork and a happy working environment help us to provide the first-rate care that residents deserve.”

Romanian by birth, Claudia grew up in the town of Buzău, 100km north east of the capital Bucharest. Having completed a year of her university studies in tourism, she left Romania to come to the UK. The plan was to stay for six months and earn enough money here to finish her studies, but she never went back! Instead, she met and married husband Barlen, and the couple have an eight-year-old daughter, Maria.

When not at work Claudia loves spending time with her family. Like every child of her age, Maria loves computer games. So when Claudia is not working she spends a lot time learning ‘Coding’ from her daughter and they also enjoy making memories along with their little cat Marshal, the newest addition to the family.
